On Dec. 15, 2005, very soon days shy of her 20th birthday, college student and Miss Arkansas contestant Nona Dirksmeyer was found bludgeoned to death in her apartment building. The shocking sight rocked the all-American town of Russellville, Ark. and spelled the grisly end to a stirring but troubled life.
Police arrived at the sight to find Dirksmeyer’s boyfriend Kevin Jones covered in blood. Jones, who, goes with by his mother and friend, discovered the body, claimed that his look was the result of an effort to revive Dirksmeyer however police speculated that it was caused by an effort to contaminate the crime scene.
The Investigators say Jones went into a violent anger when he finds out a condom wrapper in Dirksmeyer’s apartment. It was this wrapper and Jones’ bloody palm print on the light bulb of the lamp used to kill Dirksmeyer that would show the way to Jones being charged with Nona’s murder and would turn out to be the focus of the prosecution’s case.
Jones was found not culpable and dramatic new developments appeared when his attorneys started their own investigation into who truly killed Nona. And that’s when the case actually heats up. This Saturday, Sept. 20, at 10 p.m. ET/PT, the Correspondent Richard Schlesinger reports for 48 Hours Mystery.
